Description: This event is a hackathon to code, strategize and innovate some ingenious solutions to the most sought out real-life problem statements. This event is only for FY and SY students.

RULES:

MECHATRIX

Description: The Competition is about how fast one interprets the given problem using CATIA.

● The competition is to test how fast one interprets the given problem using CATIA.
● Catia enables students to quickly create design models with an intuitive, model centric interface. One can create, revise models in graphics window using tool bars and dashboards.
● Equally important Catia interface components include the navigator and browser, which enable one to quickly locate, preview, and open design model.
● One also has the ability to manipulate and orient design models, which is an important basic skill that one will use whenever one are working in Catia.
● First round: In this round, candidates are given basic models to test their command mastery and speed in modelling. The one completing the task in minimum time will proceed to next round.
● Second round: In this round, candidates will have to create several parts, and use the minimum assembly design.
The winner will be decided on basis of accuracy of sketch and time required to assemble given task.

● Second round: In this round, candidates will have to create several parts. Using the commands of Assembly Design, one has to complete the given task and use the minimum assembly design.

PRODIGY

Description :
Unleash their machining skills and get in to the groove of screeching rhythms of turning, facing, tapering and everything that one can do with a lathe machine. Want to perform operations by their self on the lathe machine?? This is the event where one can show their workshop skills. Participants are required to perform a set of operations on the given job and produce a mechanical component using lathe machine for which problem statement will be declared on the spot. At the end the components produced by the participants will be evaluated based on the surface finish, time required, and the dimensional accuracy.

Rules:

  • There will be a single round of approx. one and a half hour. 
  • Participants need to complete their job within this given time limit. 
  • Participants should take a note that there are points awarded for after job, machine cleaning which are included in their total score count.
  • There will be no more rounds later. This is a one and final round event. 
  • Any damage to Lathe M/C, surroundings etc., or any malpractices including negligence during machining will lead to disqualification.
  • Fine will be taken if any major damages to tool, Lathe machine or surroundings occur during operation.
  • After the completion of the task all the accessories must be returned. 
  • No extra work piece will be provided and carrying of any extra material is banned.
  • The judge’s and organizer’s decision will be final, binding to all and irrevocable.
  • Participants are responsible for their own safety. 
  • They should compulsorily have apron and shoes.
  • The winner will be decided based on the accuracy, Surface finish and time duration

Description :
Assemblex will test candidate’s ability to understand assembly drawing and production drawing. It also tests the team’s knowledge regarding mechanical components. Teams will be required to assemble components together to make a machine part with or without its drawing.

Round 1:
Multiple Choice Questions with only one answer. MCQs will be based on the basics of machine drawing, blueprint reading and knowledge about machines.

Round 2:
Teams qualifying from Round 1 will be shortlisted for this round. ●Shortlisted teams will be given an assembly drawing or its exploded view and the task will be to decide the optimized sequence to assemble the mechanical components.

Rules:

  • Every participant must carry a valid college ID card and registration receipt without which he/she won’t be allowed to participate in the event.
  • There is no restriction of branch. Student from any branch can participate.
  • Decision taken by the judges and organizers will be final and binding to all.
  • All the required tools will be provided at the event venue by the organizers.

Description:

  • Every one of us has fantasies of space missions and travelling to the far distant points of light and other planets, so as to explore every nook and cranny of the universe. And the vehicle that has made such an exciting travel possible is “ROCKET”.
  • But just imagine if the candidate could build his/her own rocket with the help of simple elements like water & air! Mélange gives one such an opportunity to build their own rocket with readily available materials. No need to have a complex knowledge of Aeronautics. All one need is water and air to power it, and a bottle for the body. Fuel their creativity with imagination and ignite it with their passion to reach the top of the sky!

RULES:

Design a single stage water rocket using a plastic container of maximum 1 litre capacity that uses a combination of pressurized air and water for propulsion to complete a defined task.
A launcher should also be constructed that can launch the water rocket safely.
The launcher should provide a 45° angle of trajectory. 
Only water should be used as a propellant. No gas other than air is allowed to be pressurized and provide thrust to the rocket.
The maximum pressure should not exceed 100psi. 
Only pressurized air and water assembly should be used for launching.

●No other potential, kinetic, or any other form of energy will be permitted for the launch.

No component or a body part of the rocket should get detached from the main frame during the flight of the rocket. If detached then the rocket will be disqualified.
The neck of the container must remain intact and unaltered. 
The flange and the mouth of the bottle can be used to hold the rocket while pressurizing.
No metal parts should be attached to the rocket. 
Raw will be provided. The participants have to make their rockets and ●have to launch it.
Participants will not be allowed to use mobile phones or any other electronic gadget during the event, except calculators.

Participants need to be present at the event venue at least 20 minutes prior to the commencement of the event.

Disqualification:

  • If any rocket is found to be dangerous to launch by the organizers and judges.
  • If the rocket doesn’t have a triggering mechanism to safely launch the rocket from a distance of 2m from the launcher.
  • If a rocket blasts before the launch.
    If a rocket launches before indicated by the organizers.
  •  If any part of rocket breaks off during the time of flight.

Description :

  • If one is the type of person who does simple things the hard way, then this is the event for one.
  • Nature itself is complex, from microscopic atomic structure to the massive universe with rising entropy and hence the energy conversions. Put their simple scientific ideas into their practical contraption system in the most complicated way (i.e. with as many steps as possible consisting of different energy conversions, different geometrical paths, etc.) instead of a simple straight forward step.
  • Rules:
  • The participants have to hit the pillars of different heights placed in rows using a multi-shooting system.
  • The system should have a minimum of 10 steps.
  • A step is an action that results into another action and continues to the final aim. Each step should have energy conversion from one form of energy to another.
  • Parallel steps will be awarded more marks. A parallel step is an action which initiates two or more steps at the same time.
  • There should be at least four different energy conversions (e.g. potential to kinetic, electrical to mechanical etc.) and rest of the contraptions (steps) can be of any type.
  • Participants can start the chain reaction automatically or manually. 
  • Participants are allowed to make a maximum of 2 checkpoints in their machine according to their convenience, but the marks will be deducted accordingly.
    Participants are allowed to use fire and water in their Contraption system. 
  • Points will be awarded accordingly.
    At the end participants are asked to hit the given target. 
    Direct steps and parallel steps in the Contraption will be awarded 10 and 20 points respectively.
    Energy conservations involved in the system will be awarded 30 points. 
  • Automatic initiation of the steps will be awarded an additional 15 points. 
  • Robustness of contraption will add to the score. 
  • Checkpoints are provided to restart incase the task fails. But not to split the system into two parts.
    An initial set up time of 180 minutes will be given to each team.
  • Setup time of 45 minutes will be given before 2nd trial. 
  • Only two trials or attempts are allowed. However, team takes extra trials then that team will be disqualified.
  • Maximum three hand touches are allowed including hand touch at the time of starting the contraption. For further 4th, 5th, 6th hand touches 10, 30, 50 points will be deducted respectively. Further hand touch will lead to disqualification of the team.
  • If one fail in the first trial, then 10% of their total point gained after their successful trial will be deducted.
  • Time of 15 minutes will be given to each team for displaying contraption to the judges.
  • The energy conversions after completing the task are not considered. 
    Less points will be allotted for the repeated conversions ● No alterations in contraption of any kind is allowed at any point of time during trial.
    Step has to be designed by the participating team only. The steps performed for energy conversion by any ready-made product will not be scored.
    All the required tools will be provided at the event venue by the organizers.

Judging criteria:
Points will be given on the basis of Aggression, damage/pinning, control, strategy, defense.
Mobility of bot after match.

●A robot will be declared immobile if it cannot display linear motion of at least one in china time period of 30 seconds. A bot with one side of its drive train disabled will not be considered immobilized if it can demonstrate some degree of controlled movement. This rule will also apply to any robot that becomes trapped by any part of the arena or arena hazards, including the pit (if any).

Notes:
Points given by the judges will be final. No argument will be tolerated. 1.The team arguing with the Judges can be disqualified.
Please note that, no participant will be allowed to enter the arena 2.during the entire duration of the match except during the hand touches.

Description:
Build a wireless, remote controlled machine, powered only by an “Internal Combustion Engine”, to complete the track with turns, slopes, tunnel, ramp and many more.” Racing is a matter of spirit not strength, so be ready to become “THE DIRT TRACKKING!!”

RULES:
 The event will be conducted for one day.
 Knockout and finals on the same day.
 Elimination Round:
 There will be 2 rounds for knockout.
 1st phase: Endurance Test: Teams have TO perform some tasks which will be declared before the main event.
 2nd phase: Each team will get 2 laps. Best time amongst the two laps will be considered.
 These laps will have to be taken successively. Selection for the next round will be based on the performance of 1st and 2nd phase.
Semi-final round:
Teams qualified for this round will have to run their vehicles on the track which will be a little bit different and having some more difficulties than that of the first round. Teams completing the task in less time will be selected for the final round.

Final round:
In the final round two cars will race simultaneously to get to the finish line.

Spécifications :
Machine specification:
Engine:
Maximum piston displacement allowed is 4cc.

●The car should be powered by ONLY one IC engine.

●Any machine which uses DC Motors for propulsion will be disqualified. ●However, DC motors and servos can be used for steering mechanisms or any other control mechanisms apart from propulsion.
Fuel:
Fuel used can be ready made. Required fuel must be brought by participants.

●Vehicle dimensions:
Machine should fit in a box of dimensions 700mmx500mm x500mm (lxbxh) at any moment of time during the race. The external device which is used to control the machine is not included in the size constraint.
Antennae (if used) are exempted from the height restriction.

●Control:
● For control of the vehicle participants may use remotes having frequency range.

● To avoid frequency clashes students, have to submit their remotes before race.
● To avoid the frequency clashes, every participating team has to submit their remote with organizing committee, when other team is performing. The team failing to do so will be immediately disqualified.
● The teams may obtain the practice slots at the time of reporting. Practice session will be before the elimination round. Practice slots will be of max 15 minutes. Every team should be ready at time specified. In case of valid reasons one more chance will be given.
● The track will have certain number of checkpoints. If a machine halts, or goes off at any point on the track race will start from the check point previously covered. The time shall still be running in the meantime.
● Only two team members from the racing team are allowed to touch the car during race in elimination round and in the final round only one team member will handle the car. One team member will control the car from the stand.
● If the machine starts before the flag is waved, the machine will get a second chance. However, if any machine starts off before the waving of flag for a second time, it will be disqualified. No re-match will be held for the second time.
In any case, organizers decision shall be treated as final and binding on all.
The organizers reserve the rights to change the rules. Change in rules, if any will be highlighted on the website and notified to the registered participants.
Teams are not allowed to purposefully damage the machine of the opponent’s team. If found doing so on track (while racing), the concerned team will be disqualified. Execution of this rule will be based on organizers’ discretion.
Forgetting certificate of participation teams would have to cross at least two check points in first round.

PROPULSION SPECIFICATION:
The machine must use only mechanical power generated by an internal combustion (IC) engine for propulsion. Only one IC engine should be used in the machine. Use of any other sources such as chemicals, compressed gas, rockets etc. is not allowed.
Any machine which uses DC Motors for propulsion will be disqualified. ●However, DC motors and servos can be used for steering mechanisms or any other control mechanisms apart from propulsion.
The machine must have a non-board power supply to run any mechanism requiring electric power.

The maximum allowed capacity of IC engine to be used is 4cc (i.e. Participants can also use 2.5cc, 3cc, 3.5cc or any other IC engine lower in capacity).
The electric voltage anywhere in the machines should not exceed 12V at any point of time.

CERTIFICATION:
Certificate of participation will be given to teams that complete at least 2 check points in elimination round.
However, the teams disqualified due to their misbehaviour or any other reason will not get any kind of certificate.
Certificate of excellence will be given to top three winners.

Cars with higher weight are suggested.

●Tune their car in such a way that it should be fuel efficient to complete the laps.
Dirt bone tires are preferred.

Description : Design and build a manually controlled robot that is able to play football with the opponent robot by some kind of mechanism which is attached to the front of the robot.

Rules:

ROBOT SPECIFICATIONS
Maximum robot dimensions: 30 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm.
● Maximum weight: 5 kg.
● The robot cannot split into two independent parts.
Robot should be manually controlled.

● No weapons (blades, spikes) of any kind are to be attached onto the robot.
The participants are allowed to use any number of actuators.

POWER SUPPLY:
Max Current: 5A.

●The voltage between two points should not exceed 12V i.e. max voltage is 12 V (normal operation).
18 V (Momentary surge on load only) allowed times in a match for 7 seconds.
Battery should be mounted on the robot and should be brought by the participants themselves.
Charging facility will be made available, though it is advised to bring along charged Batteries.

GAME RULES:

There should be no intentional damage done to the other robot by means of attacking wires, wheels, motors etc.
Any damage to the field or to the opposing robot would result in immediate disqualification of the team.
The duration of each match will be 6 minutes (i.e. two halves, each of 3 minutes duration).                                                                                                       A 40- second’s break will be given after half time during which the teams will be allowed to attend to their robots.

Each match will be a one-on-one match between two teams selected randomly.

The team with the highest number of points is the winner of the match.

In case of a tie, a penalty shootout will be held.


The teams will be short-listed for final rounds on the basis of their score in the elimination round.In final rounds, matches will be one-on-one with some changes in arena.

Description: Catapult wars is an event where participants will compete in teams of two to destroy the opponents castle.

Rules:

Two teams will be playing at a time and the objective is to destroy the opponent’s castle.

There will be multiple rounds in order to eliminate teams and the number of rounds will depend on the number of participants.

Rules may be changed without any prior intimation. 
Participants are requested to reach the venue 20 mins before the reporting time.

Description: Design and build manually controlled robot that is able to surpass obstacles & hurdles in its path.

RULES:


Robot tasks:
 The robot has to begin from its start position.
 The robot has to clear all the hurdles as per the instructions.


Elimination Round (Day 1):
 In the 1st round, each team will complete the task individually.
 After the call of hand touch, the robot will be placed at the previous check point.
 Maximum 5 hand touches will be allowed
 Time limit for completing the entire task will be 5 min.
 The team completing the task in minimum time will be qualified for the next level.
 If none of the teams is able to complete the allotted task, then winner will be decided using some specific criteria like hurdles cleared etc.
 Some specific number of teams will qualify for the next round, depending on the total no. of participants.


Second round (Day 2):
 Track will be same as above with more obstacles.
 Two teams will compete at a time, here onwards (knock out round).
 In case of any conflicts the judge’s decision will be considered final.


Final Round (Day 2):
 The match will stop immediately as soon as one of the bot reaches the finish line after dumping all the idols in the respective spots.
 If no team is able to complete the task then winner will be decided using some specific criteria like hurdles cleared etc.
 Even after taking the above two actions, we do not get a winner, then the match will be restarted.
ARENA SPECIFICATIONS:
 The total arena will be of 11ft * 17ft and it will consist of different hurdles.
 The basic track consists of 2 symmetrical hurdle tracks & it will be separate for both the teams.
 The track width is 1.2ft throughout.
ROBOT SPECIFICATIONS:
 Robot should be a manually controlled robot.
 The robot should not exceed the area 25 * 25cm. No limit on height constraints.
 For wired robots length of the wires must be sufficiently long to cover the entire arena (approximately6-7 meter).
 Modification in the robot will not be allowed at any point and if done the team will be disqualified.
CONTROLS:
 Battery Voltage: Maximum allowed is 24 V.
 Participants will be provided with 230V, 50HzAC supply.
 Participants have to bring their own on board power supply units.
 Participants are requested to reach the venue 20 mins before the reporting time.

VISHWATRONICS

Description: Circuit-Eye is a competition for all those electronics enthusiasts whose room is a junkyard of transistors, who relish on the smell of burnt ICs and solder and whose brain is as fast as a flash when it comes to trouble shooting various circuits.

Round 1: Elimination Round
This round will require participants to face Multiple Choice Questions ●(MCQs) based on the basic knowledge of electronics.
The questions will be asked in a time-restricted manner.

●Round 2: (Specific number of teams will be retained for this round)
Each participant in a group is provided with basic components to build the circuit.
●They have to generate their logic as per given problem statement and build the circuit.
●Round 3: (Specific number of teams will be retained for this round)
This is the final round of the competition.

●In this round, participants will be given a faulty circuit & participants have to find the faults and rectify them.

●Judging Criteria
Round 1 & Round 2: Teams will be promoted to next round on the basis of maximum score.

●Round 2: Participants will be judged by how quickly a team completes the circuits
●Round 3: Participants will be judged on how many faults they were able to identify and rectify.

Description: This competition aims at testing the programming skills of the participant in MATLAB and use of MATLAB in various applications.

Description: Papyrus is a technical paper presentation competition. A paper presentation is a means of sharing their technical ideas and research with the rest of the technical world.

RULES:
●Proper details shall be submitted, failing which their paper will not be considered.
The details to be submitted shall be posted on the website as soon as registration opens.
One has to submit ABSTRACT and ACTUAL PAPER both.       

●Abstract SHOULD NOT BE MORE THAN 350 WORDS (Excluding the Title Page.).

     Second round is actual presentation round. Participants need to present their paper in Mélange’19.
● Paper should be as per IEEE format (font size of Main Heading is 16, Sub Heading 14, and general information 12, Times New Roman, MSWord).
●Paper should be not be of more than 10 pages. ●Participants might get shortlisted before the event based on their paper.

●Once the participant’s (team’s) abstract and paper is selected they shall be ●notified via email (and/ or text messages) to their registered contact details.

Description: It is a unique platform for all students to exhibit their projects in a
Mega project exhibition and competition. This competition is open for all
Engineering students who would like to exhibit their projects in this
National level Technical Symposium. The project need not be completed at the time of the competition the idea behind the project will be evaluated in case of partially completed projects.

●Stage 1:
For participation in this competition, the participants shall register online or on the desk.
The participants registering online shall draw a DD in favour of Vishwakarma Institute of Technology, whose details will be posted later
on the website.
Participants who have registered online are supposed to mail the synopsis and at least a photograph of their working hardware (not applicable for software or research projects) with their DD number and registration code to the given email id. No entries shall be accepted without synopsis and receipt number.

The participant shall clearly mention the category of the project on the synopsis.
The received Synopses will then be evaluated and the best synopses in each category will be selected for finals. Participants will get confirmation of their selection via mail as well as on their mobile via SMS.

Projects will be evaluated on the basis of its reliability, practical application and innovative ideas used.
Judges’ decision shall be final and not be changed under any circumstances.
Every level will be evaluated separately, and there will be one winner for each level.

Eligibility:
All engineering pursuing students (FE to BE) with a valid ID card for current year.
Participants are requested to carry all the equipment and devices required for their projects. It is not obligatory on the part of Mélange team to comply with all requirements.
For software projects, participants should bring their own laptops.

Description: The competition will feature a blank or partially filled Sudoku grid. Questions will be given and each question will point towards one or more coordinate on the puzzle. The questions will be featured from the curriculum of First Year Engineering and Mathematical Logic. The more questions one solves, easier the puzzle becomes.

●In case of tie, judging would be done on the basis of minimum time required to complete the analysis.

Following are the problem statements from Industry. Participants are requested to present solution on ONE of the following statements.

 

  • Process Design for Low Pressure storage Facility for Natural Gas (Methane).

Capacity : 10000 tons

Participants will be evaluated based on

(a) Process Flow Diagram (PFD)

(b) Heat and Mass Balance

 

  • Process Design for Cryogenic Storage Facility for Ammonia.

Capacity : 10000 tons

Participants will be evaluated based on:

(a) Process Flow Diagram

  • Process Scheme to transport multiple chemicals using same pipeline.

Pipeline Length : 300km.

Design should be made for following chemicals : Diesel, Petrol, Kerosene.

One Chemical shall be transported at one time.

(a) Evaluation based on Hydraulic Calculations.

 

  • Process Design for Captive Power Plant.

Fuel source: Coal.         

Capacity: 50 MW/day.

Format:
● Elimination based on Abstract Submission
Participants are required to send a soft copy of an abstract of their work in 300 words. The abstract must contain names of authors’ hypothesis or statement about the problem under investigation as the title, a statement of the experimental methods/methodology used, essential results provided in summary form (even if preliminary), and a conclusion. Do not give citations, tables or keywords in the abstract. Abstracts missing the fore mentioned elements will be rejected.
● Abstracts are to be sent to the mentioned email-id (sahil.bhatia16@vit.edu) with the email subject as “IDP ABSTRACT” in PDF format only. If done otherwise, their entry might not be recognized and might not open if sent in any other format. Under such circumstances, we will not be held responsible. Multiple entries/emails will not be entertained; the contents of the first email only will be taken into consideration.

● Each of the finalists will be given 10-15 minutes to present their solutions, followed by a 5-minute Q&A session by the judges.

INNOVATION

Description:
Switch kit is an event that tests their basic electrical knowledge through MCQ tests and application.

Rules:

Round 1:
●It is an MCQ based round where participants have to solve MCQs of varying difficulty. ●Depending on the score, teams for round 2 will be selected.
●No negative marking. 

Round 2:
This round will contain the actual implementation of the given problem ●statement on hardware.
Each team will be given a kit. Both members will be allotted a certain ●time, in which a member needs to develop the required logic on the kit. Once the bell rings, the other member needs to switch with the first and continue designing the remaining part of the circuit in his allotted time. The switching will go on until the team is able to get the desired output.
